Gallery Blås & Knåda, Stockholm, Sweden, 2010
With this exhibition, I’m moving away from the sterile sanitary environment in the bathroom and into the living room, paying tribute to craftsmanship in fusions between ceramics and furniture.
The aim is to invoke memories of childhood, home, family, safety and togetherness – and to encourage conversations about these themes. The objects are functional but their principal role is to make you reflect on and start discussions about time vs. waste of time – the skillfulness of craftsmen vs. industrial mass production. The entirety of the show and the atmosphere of the exhibition space are in focus – not the individual objects.
The materials appear open, raw and inviting, contributing to a sense of intimacy and varmth. All pieces are inspired from childhood memories.
All colors are shades of brown and draw parallels to the interior design of the 1970s. Brown earthenware combined with wood and textiles highlight the values of past times in a contemporary context.
The concept is new but the artistic expression is well known: precise and tight.
