Window 107
Window 107 is a miniature exhibition space in a formerly unused shop window on busy Istedgade in central Copenhagen. The gallery displays ceramic objects, events and projects and was first established in 2004 as a reaction to ceramic exhibitions usually attracting a very narrow audience. I wanted to show ceramics to people who normally do not visit galleries and museums – to give random passers-by the opportunity to experience new, contemporary ceramics.
Exhibitors range from students and new graduates to well-established ceramists; the deciding factor always being that they make exciting, alternative ceramics.
Window 107 builds on energy: no censoring, no long waiting periods, no lengthy planning processes. With clear reference to the artist on the window, there is a direct contact between exhibitor and audience.
I have no costs running the place and, consequently, exhibiting is free and I take no commission on potential sales. The exhibitor exclusively decides how to decorate the space and how to present the works.
